WESTERVILLE, Ohio. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis won its first Ohio Athletic Conference match of the season as it defeated Otterbein University by a final score of 6-3 on the Otterbein tennis Courts
BW (10-2, 1-1 OAC) took two of three doubles matches to gain a 2-1 lead. The number one team of All-OAC player Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and sophomore Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) won by a score of 8-4. The tandem of senior Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) and freshman Jake Elbin (Findlay) took third doubles by a score of 8-5. Otterbein (5-8, 1-1 OAC) won second doubles by a score of 8-3.
The Yellow Jackets secured the match as it won three of six doubles matches. Polifrone earned the win at first singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Senior Academic All-OAC player Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) captured second singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Harris took third singles by scores of 7-6, 7-3 in the tie-breaker and 6-4. Senior Academic All-OAC player Jake Liebler (Medina) rounded out the match as he secured fifth singles by scores of 6-7 (4-7 tiebreaker), 6-0 and 6-0.
BW is back in action on Tuesday, April 4 when it hosts an OAC match against cross-town rival John Carroll University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m. Prior to the match, Head Coach Brian Rector will be honored for winning his 500th career match earlier this season.
