Men’s Soccer Loses Heartbreaker Versus Oberlin

BEREA, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team was defeated by Oberlin College, 4-3, in a non-conference game on Tressel Field inside of George Finne Stadium.

Freshman forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Midpark) and sophomore forward Logan Davis each scored a goal and added an assist for BW (1-7). In the game, The Yellow Jackets outshot Oberlin (6-1) 25-10.  

The Yeomen struck first when junior forward Timothy Williams scored off a cross from senior midfielder Adam Chazin-Gray at the 8:54 mark. BW scored the equalizer in the 22nd minute as sophomore midfielder Carter Sutton (Ona, W. Va./Cabell Midland) netted his first career goal off an assist from junior midfielder Jack Shirley (Dublin/Scioto). Oberlin scored the last goal before the break when freshman forward Jack McMillin scored in the 35th minute to give the Yeomen a 2-1 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Ruple scored his second goal of the season off a pass from Davis to make it 2-2 in the 71st minute.  The Yeomen regained the lead when sophomore midfielder Brian James scored an unassisted goal at the 75:41 mark. The Yellow Jackets tied the game up again when Ruple shot the ball off the crossbar and Davis headed the rebound past the Oberlin goalkeeper for his team leading fifth goal of the season in the 77th minute. The Yeomen scored the game-winner off a direct kick from junior defender Jesse Lauritsen who connected with senior midfielder Nick Wertman.

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Asbury (Cincinnati/Turpin) falls to 1-4 this season.  

BW is back in action on Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Defiance to face Defiance College in the first game of a men's and women's doubleader on Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field  at 1 p.m.
