Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer was defeated, 3-2, in overtime against Marietta College in its first Ohio Athletic Conference game of the year on Marietta Field.

Sophomore midfielder Kurt Raney (Mentor) and freshman forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) scored the two goals for BW (3-8, 0-1 OAC).  

Marietta (6-4-1, 1-0 OAC) was led by senior forward Taylor Reasoner as he scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime.  

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Pioneers, 9-7, in the first half and scored the only goal of the half when Raney took advantage of a penalty kick at the 11:43 mark to give BW a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Six minutes into the second half Ruple extended the Yellow Jackets lead off a pass from senior defender Adam Grove (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) in the 52nd minute. Marietta scored the final two goals of regulation to force overtime. Reasoner scored off a cross from freshman midfielder Cole Pappas in the 77th minute and freshman midfielder Sebastian Ziaja netted the tying goal when he was assisted by sophomore defender Noah Laliberty in the 79th minute.

In overtime, Reasoner scored the game-winner for the Pioneers off a pass from freshman defender Luke Maher at the 97:53 mark.  

Freshman goalkeeper Patrick Mehal (Richfield/Revere) made nine saves for BW.  

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, October 5 when they host the University of Mount Union for an OAC game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
