BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College, 3-1, tonight (Saturday, October 23, 2010) in the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader in Wilmington, Ohio.
With its win, B-W is now 9-5-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while Wilmington now moves to 3-10-3 overall and 1-6-0 in the OAC.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets broke through to score the first goal when senior forward Tyler Leister (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) found the back of the net at the 42:35 mark.
In the second stanza, B-W continued to increase the lead when Leister recorded his second goal of the day at the 55:51 mark off of a pass from junior midfielder Andy Thompson (Huron) to increase the lead to 2-1. The two goals give Leister six on the year. The Yellow Jackets scored their third goal of the day at the 82:10 mark when senior midfielder Jeff Bonezzi beat the goalie in the upper left 90 after receiving an assist form freshman midfielder Judson Sprandel (Akron/Green). Wilmington erased the shutout at the 86:43 mark of the contest when Kris Duff was able to beat the keeper with a low liner off of the pass from Emil Nordstrom.
Overall, the the Yellow Jackets outshot the Quakers, 24-7, and BW outcornered Wilmington, 6-1.
In goal, sophomore Ryan Hulings (Centerville) faced seven Wilmington shots and made two saves while giving up only one goal.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Wednesday, Oct. 27 when they host OAC and cross-town rival John Carrol University at 7:00 p.m. on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. B-W then finishes its regular season when they host Muskingum University on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
The Oct. 30 doubleheader between B-W and OAC rival Muskingum University will be taped and then shown on a delay basis by regional cable network SportsTime Ohio (www.sportstimeohio.com). The women's game begins at 4:30 p.m. and men play at 7:00 p.m. The women's game will be shown on October 30 at 9:00 p.m. and again on Monday, November 1 at 5:00 a.m. The men's game will be aired on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. and on Monday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
