BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated host Alma (Mich.) College, 4-0, today (Wednesday, September 1, 2010) in Alma in the season-opener for each team.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets are now 1-0 overall and next play this Saturday (Sept. 4) when they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania and play McDaniel (Md.) College at 2:00 p.m. in the annual Herb Lauffler Penn State Behrend University Tournament. The consolation and championship games are on Sunday (Sept. 5) at 2:00 or 4:00 p.m.. With its loss, Alma is 0-1.
B-W opened the scoring at the 8:42 mark when sophomore midfielder Pat Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) scored with an assist from senior forward Tyler Leister (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls). The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 2-0 at the 30:16 mark when sophomore forward Tommy Kramer (Worthington/ Kilbourne) scored an unassisted goal. BW also led 2-0 at the intermission.
In the second half, sophomore midfielder Justin Peterson (Rochester Hills, Mich./ Adams) gave B-W a 3-0 lead at the 46:12 mark with a goal on an assist from Brennan. Senior 2-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior) closed out the scoring at the 65:40 mark with a goal on an assist from junior forward Noah Eubanks (West Bloomfield, Mich./ West Bloomfield).
Overall, B-W outshot the Scots, 17-6, and outcornered them, 6-3.
In net for B-W, sophomore Ryan Hulings (Centerville) started and played 71 minutes and made one save. He was relieved by sophomore Josh Gresh (Canton/ North Canton Hoover), who played played the final 19 minutes and also had a save.
The first Yellow Jacket home games are a women's and men's doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 18 against Grove City (Pa.) College at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m., respectively. The matches are played on Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.
