Six Men's Lacrosse Athletes Earn Academic All-OAC Accolades

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio- Six Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse student-athletes were selected to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

In order to be selected to the Academic All-OAC team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Senior attack Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), sophomore All-OAC midfielder Ben Kubiak (Wooster), senior defender Jake Jackson (Louisville), junior goalkeeper Nate Karatas (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), junior All-OAC defender Brian Jandzinski (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) and junior defender Jacob Swank (Hillard/Woodgrove) were six of the 41 student-athletes to be recognized.

Binner, who earns his third consecutive Academic All-OAC honor, is a business management and administration double major who carries a 3.64 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletics Honor Society. On the field, the attack appeared in and started all 16 games in 2018. He was fifth on the team with 63 total shots, 29 total points and a career-high tying 21 goals. Binner dished out eight assists and tallied 18 ground balls.

Kubiak, who garners his first career Academic All-Conference honor, is a software engineering major and a Jacket Scholar who carries a 3.63 GPA. This season, he was tabbed to the All-OAC second team and appeared in all 16 games. He was tied for fifth on the squad with a career-best 29 points and a career-high 21 goals. The midfielder recorded a career-best eight assists, career-high 24 ground balls and nine forced turnovers.

Jackson, a sport management major, earns his second straight Academic All-OAC honor. He carries a 3.61 GPA, is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and recipient of the BW Student-Athlete Services Campus and Community Service Award. The senior appeared in four games in 2018 and tallied a career-best two ground balls and forced his first career turnover.

Karatas, who earns his second consecutive Academic All-OAC accolade, is a public health management major who carries a 3.59 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletics Honor Society. Appearing in five games in the net, Karatas made 12 saves and recorded three ground balls.

Jandzinski, who was tabbed to his first Academic All-OAC team, is a pre-physical therapy major and carries a 3.55 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. This season, the defender was named to the All-OAC first team and led the team with a career-high 54 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers. He scored his first career goal for his first career point.

Swank, who earns his first career Academic All-OAC selection, is a finance major who carries a 3.51 GPA. The junior is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. He appeared in 10 games this season, recording a career-high six ground balls and forced a career-best four turnovers.
