Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Heidelberg for Fourth Consecutive Victory

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse defeated Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 15-2 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (7-2, 3-0 OAC) improved to 2-0 all-time versus Heidelberg (6-4, 1-2 OAC). The Yellow Jackets have outscored the Student Princes, 39-4, in their two meetings.

BW was led by junior All-OAC attack Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) with a game-high five goals, three assists and eight points. Senior attack Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y./ Williamsville North) and senior attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) both tallied three goals. Sophomore midfielder Ben Kubiak (Wooster) contributed two goals in the win.

Heidelberg was led by freshmen midfielder Liam Weaver and sophomore midfielder Patrick McCarthy with one goal each.

In net for the Yellow Jackets, senior All-OAC goalie Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) earned the victory to improve his record to 7-2. He allowed two goals with nine saves in all 60:00 minutes of action.

BW scored all four goals of the first quarter, led by Steinwachs' four points (two goals and two assists). Binner was able to find the back of the cage at the 2:55 mark and Riemenschneider recorded the final goal of the quarter with 1:42 left in the stanza.

In the second quarter, another goal by Steinwachs with 10:31 remaining extended the Jacket lead to 5-0.  After both teams went scoreless for the next nine minutes, Heidelberg was able to get on the board after Weaver found the back of the net with 3:45 left in the first half. BW went into intermission with a 6-1 lead after Kubiak scored an unassisted goal with with less than 90 seconds remaining.

After the Student Princes scored the opening goal of the third quarter, BW rattled off six straight goals to extend their lead to 13-2.  In that 6-0 run, Steinwachs and Binner both added two scores. Kubiak and freshmen midfielder Quinn Colwell (Glenshaw, Pa/Shaler Area) also recorded a goal.

The final two goals of the game were recorded by Riemenschneider and freshmen attack Ethan Miller (Delaware/Hayes), with the last coming with 6:56 remaining in the game.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 7 when it travels to Bexley for an OAC game against Capital University on Purmort Field inside Bernlohr Stadium at 1 p.m.
