BW Duo Lead Men’s LAX Win in OAC Opener and Best-Ever 8-0 Start

BEREA, Ohio – Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack player Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine) and freshman attack player Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) each scored four goals as the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team extended its school-record and best-ever start and won its OAC opener with a 12-10 defeat of Wilmington College on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.

In addition to Carson and Brock Riemenschneider for BW (8-0, 1-0 in the OAC), four other Yellow Jacket student-athletes each scored one goal. In goal, sophomore netminder Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai E. Stevenson) faced 30 total shots, including 16 on-goal, allowed 10 goals and made six saves.

Wilmington (7-3, 0-1 OAC) was led by junior attack Alexader Gossard with three goals. Junior midfielder Jalen Jackson and sophomore attack Reid Delaney each added two goals.

In the first quarter, the Quakers scored the stanza's only goal just 14 seconds into the game when Jackson hit the post and it bounced in for the unassisted goal.

In the second period, BW responded with two straight goals from Brock Riemenschneider to take a 2-1 at 12:59. Wilmington came right back with three goals to take a 4-2 lead. The Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 4-3 when sophomore midfielder Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) found the back of the net at 8:21. After another Quaker score made it 5-3, BW got the final score of the first half when Carson scored off an assist from senior defender Chris Nurse (Westlake) at the 3:57 mark. BW trailed 5-4 at the intermission.

In the third period, Wilmington extended its lead to 6-4 on the goal by Delaney at 10:49. The Yellow Jackets scored the final four goals to take a 8-6 lead heading into the final quarter. BW got the scores from sophomore midfielder Andrew Spicher (Erie, Pa./ McDowell), sophomore midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty), Brock Riemenschneider and junior midfielder Jake Opincar (Middleburg Heights/ Parma Padua Franciscan). Opincar's goal, his first of the season, came with 22 seconds left in the stanza.

In the fourth period, the Quakers quickly regained a 9-8 lead with the first three goals in two and half minutes. The Yellow Jackets responded and scored three unanswered goals to take an 11-9 lead on two goals by Carson and one from Brock Riemenschneider. After a Wilmington score cut the lead to 11-10, BW got the game's final goal from Carson at the 2:37 mark.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 8 when the Jackets travel to Alliance for an OAC game against the University of Mount Union at Mount Union Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The next home match is on Saturday, April 11 when BW hosts a non-conference game against Franciscan University on Tressel Field at 1 p.m.
