BW Men’s Lacrosse Team Wins at Oberlin to Improve to 4-0

OBERLIN, Ohio – Freshman attack Brock Riemenschneider (Westlake) scored two goals and added an assist as the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated host and traditional rival Oberlin College, 6-5 on Dick Bailey Field. The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-0 this season.

The first period was scoreless.

In the second period, Oberlin (3-3) led 1-0 at 13:44 before BW tied it 1-1 28 seconds later on a goal by senior defender Chris Nurse (Westlake). After the Yeomen took a 2-1 lead at 10:42 via an extra-man goal, BW scored four straight goals to take a 5-2 lead at the end of the first half. First, junior All-OAC attack Vinny Carson scored at 6:34 to tie it at 2-2. Then sophomore midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty) scored at 4:48 for a 3-2 lead. It grew to 4-2 at 4:48 when freshman Brock Riemenschneider scored the first of his two second quarter goals. He scored again with 14 seconds left to end the first half scoring.

Oberlin scored the only two goals of the third quarter to cut the BW lead to 5-4.

BW gained a 6-4 lead at 10:46 when sophomore midfielder Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y./ Williamsville East) scored.

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai Stevenson), this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, faced 36 Yeomen shots, including 12 on-goal, made seven saves and had a .583 save percentage.

Oberlin led in shots, 35-22, and shots on-goal, 12-11. The Yeomen also had more ground balls, 36-25. For BW, Nurse led the way with four caused turnovers and sophomore Alex Fioritto (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) had the most ground balls with five.

This Saturday's game originally scheduled at Hilbert (N.Y.) College has been cancelled.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 25 at Trine (Ind.) University at 7 p.m. The next BW home game is on Wednesday, April 1 when the Jackets host Saint Vincent (Pa.) Univesity at 7 p.m.
