BW Men’s Lacrosse Team Beats Wilmington, 15-3

WILMINGTON, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated host and Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College, 15-3, today at Williams Stadium. This was the first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game for each team.  This also is the first year for lacrosse as an OAC sport for men and women.

The Yellow Jackets, now 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, have won two straight games. BW was led by the quartet of freshman MF Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional), sophomore attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine), this week's OAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week, freshman attack James Wilhelm (Bay Vilage/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) and freshman Jarrod Gilliam (Lewis Center/ Olentangy Liberty) each had four goals. In addition, freshman midfielder Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y./ Williamsville East) had a game-high five assists.

Wilmington, now 1-10 overall and 0-1 in the OAC, had three separate players each score once.

BW jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 13:22 mark of the first period when Librock scored via an assist from Roberts. The lead grew to 4-0 opened a 4-0 at 6:41 when Wilhelm scored with an assist from freshman MF Shane Rakich (Olentangy/ Liberty). After Wilmington got on the board to make it 4-1, the Yellow Jackets ended the period with a 5-1 lead when Carson scored at 2:00 with an assist from freshman attack Devon Henry (Avon Lake).

In the second stanza, Wilmington closed the deficit to 5-2 at 10:17 with a man-up goal, but BW responded with five straight goals to take a 10-2 lead 2:57 before halftime when Roberts scored his second goal of the game and Librock had his fifth assist.

BW put the game away by scoring the first four goals of the third stanza and grabbed a 14-2 advantage at 1:47 when Wilhelm had his third goal of the contest and Rakich had his second assist. BW scored its 15th and final goal in the fourth quarter when Gilliam scored unassisted. Wilmington closed out the scoring.

In goal, sophomore Jake Harders (Rocky River/St. Edward) played all 60 minutes, faced 14 shots, allowed three goals and made 11 saves as he improved to 6-3 overall.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 16 when BW hosts Otterbein University in an OAC game on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
