BW Men’s Lacrosse Team Knocks off Capital

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated Capital University by a final score of 12-6 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Seniors' and Parents Night at the Tressel Field in the George Finnie Stadium.
 
BW (7-6, 2-3 OAC), who snapped a three-game losing skid, was led by freshmen attack James Wilhelm (Bay Village / St. Ignatius) and freshman midfielder Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin) each scored three goals. Freshman attack Devon Henry (Avon Lake) tallied two goals. Capital (8-6, 1-4 OAC), who has lost three straight games, was led by Nick Hess with three goals
 
The Crusaders scored three goals in the opening quarter on goals by Connor Simon, Michael Trefethern and Nick Hess with Hess' goal coming with 13 seconds left.
 
The Yellow Jackets responded with three unanswered goals in the second period to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the intermission. BW got scores from freshmen midfielders Jake Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty) and Roberts along with Henry's tying goal came with just four seconds remaining in the first half.
 
BW extended its lead to 7-3 in the third quarter on goals by Roberts, Henry and back-to-back scores Wilhelm with the last coming at the 8:15 mark. Capital snapped a 7-0 run by the Jackets and cut the lead down to 7-4 when Hess scored with 5:13 remaining. BW outscored the Crusaders 3-1 the remainder of the period and led 10-5 heading into final stanza.
 
The Yellow Jackets scored the first goal in the fourth quarter when freshman midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty) found the back of the net at the 12:21 mark. Capital responded and cut the lead down to 11-6 when Connor Simon scored with 9:30 remaining. BW would score the game's final goal when sophomore midfielder Vinny Carson(Cleveland/Benedictine) netted the shot with 20 seconds left in regulation.
 
In goal for BW, sophomore Jake Harders (Rocky River/St. Edward) played all 60 minutes, allowed six goals and made seven saves as he improved to 7-6 overall.
