Today's Game --  The Baldwin Wallace University football team plays its first road contest of 2014 as it travels to University Heights to take on cross-town rival and No. 10 nationally ranked John Carroll University in the 26th Annual Gold Bowl Game.  BW lost its first game of the season to Ohio Northern last Saturday by a final score of 37-35.   John Carroll cruised to its second victory of the season by beating No. 16 Heidelberg 43-16 last Saturday.

Series Notes --  The Yellow Jackets and Blue Streaks have met 53 times on the gridiron with BW holding a 25-24-4 series lead. The Yellow Jackets have won six of the past 10 meetings, but JCU won last season by a score of 27-7. BW beat the Blue Streaks in University Heights in 2012 and it marked the first win at JCU since 1998.  The home team has won 10 of the last 12 games.  The series began in 1923 when the Blue Streaks defeated the Yellow Jackets, 19-13. 

The Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Series --  BW leads the series 13-12 but John Carroll won the game a year ago. The Gold Bowl Trophy series dates back to 1989 and was established by former BW Alumni Director Ted Theodore '51. The trophy is a plaque with a rock shaped like a football anchored to a wooden frame and it displays the flags of each school and a medallion that indicates the winner each year.  

Last Meeting -- The last time the Yellow Jackets and Blue Streaks met on September 21 2013, John Carroll defeated BW by a final score of 27-7. The Blue Streaks built a 20-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets scored.   John Carroll outgained BW, 368-183, in total offense.

Scouting The Yellow Jackets
In week two of the season, BW scored 35 points on 216 yards rushing, 221 yards passing and 437 total yards.  Ohio Northern scored 37 points, including the game-winning touchdown with nine seconds remaining.  The Polar Bears had 454 total yards.

Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders
Offensively, junior quarterback Tyler Moeglin (Canton/St. Thomas Aquinas) has completed 34 of 46 passes for 424 yards with three TDs and one interception. He has alsorushed for 109 yards on 25 attempts with two TDs. Junior running back Issac Reed III (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Lehigh) leads the team in rushing with 224 yards on 45 attempts with two TDs.  Senior wide receiver Michael Slack (Casselberry, Fla./ Pine Castle Christian) leads the receiving corps with a team-high nine catches for 135 yards and two TDs.  Senior Kyle Dunne (Rocky River) and junior wide receiver Mike Waggoner (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) each have seven catches and Dunne has one TD.

Defensively, senior linebacker Dan O'Brien (Warren/Howland) leads the team with 20 tackles, including three for a loss.  He has also added a safety and a pass break up.  Senior defensive back Kevin Krakora (Avon) is second with 13 stops and leads the team with one interception. Senior defensive back Devonte Greer (Columbus/Mifflin) has 12 tackles and senior defensive end Luke Riemenschneider (Rocky River) has 10.

Scouting The Blue Streaks
In week two of the season, John Carroll scored 43 points on 152 yards rushing, 420 yards passing and 572 total yards. Heidelberg scored 16 points, inlcuding one on an interception return. The Student Princes had 157 yards rushing, 102 yards passing and 259 total yards. 

Polar Bear Statistical Leaders
Offensively, senior QB Mark Myers has completed completed 28 of 41 passes for 392 yards with four TDs and one interception.  He missed the first game of the season with an injury.  Senior running back Tommy Michaels leds the team in rushing with 282 yards on 51 attempts with four TDs. Sophomore wide receiver Marshall Howell leds the receiving corps with 13 catches for 162 yards and three TDS.

Defensively, sophomore defensive back Reese Armstrong leads the team with 12 tackles and has an interception. Junior defensive lineman David Porter is second with 10 tackles, including one tackle for loss. Senior defensive lineman Nick Lasko and senior linebacker Jimmy King are third with nine tackles and a sack each.
