BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team dropped an heartbreaking OHio Athletic Conference game to Ohio Northern University by a final score of 37-35 in the 37th Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.

BW (1-1, 0-1 OAC) junior quarterback Tyler Moeglin (Canton/St. Thomas Aquinas), who completed 15 of 21 passes for 176 yards with two TDs and ran for a team-high-tying 87 yards on 14 attempts with two TDs, was named the Yellow Jacket Shrine Player of the Game. Angle, who ccompleted 27 of 46 passes for 269 yards with four touchdowns and ran for a game-high 115 yards on 16 attempts with a TD, was named the the Polar Bear Shrine Player of the Game.

With the win, the Polar Bears cut BW's all-time series advantage to 27-12-1.
In addition to Moeglin offensively for BW, junior running back Issac Reed III (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Lehigh) also had 87 yards in 20 attempts with a TD. The receiving corps were led by senior WR Michael Slack (Casselberry, Fla./Pine Castle Christian) with six catches for 105 yards and a TD. The defense was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC outside linebacker Danny O'Brien (Warren/Howland) and junior middle linebacker Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/Riverside) with eight tackles each.

The Yellow Jackets opened scoring at the 10:46 mark of the first quarter and gained a 7-0 lead when Reed scored on a two-yard run and sophomore placekicker Joe Simonis (Medina/Highland) tacked on the point-after-touchdown (PAT) kick. The scoring play capped a nine-play and 83-yard drive in 4:14.
The lead grew to 14-0 at 4:36 of the first stanza when Moeglin scrambled 11 yards to the endzone and Simonis added the PAT kick. The score followed a seven-play and 76-yard drive in 3:42. The big play was a 34-yard wide receiver-option pass from Slackto senior WR Kyle Dunne (Rocky River), who caught four passes for 63 yards and had a TD.
The Polar Bears cut the deficit to 14-7 on the first play of the second quarter at 14:55 when Anglethrew seven yards to Chamberlain for the TD and junior PK Andrew DiMario added the PAT. The score capped a 12-play and 65-yard drive in 4:41. The key play was a fourth-and-three run by Angle to keep the drive alive.
ONU tied the game at 14-14 at 9:06 of the second when Angle hit Price with a 30-yard strike on the first play following a BW punt, and DiMario tacked on the PAT. The key was junior defensive back/punt return specialist Malcolm Williams 23-yard punt return to set up the Bears in BW territory.
BW regained a 21-14 advantage 7:34 before halftime when Slack caught a 37-yard aerial from Moeglin and Simonisadded his third PAT kick. The play capped a three-play and 50-yard drive in 1:29 that followed an unsuccessful ONU onside kick.
The Jackets regained a 14-point advantage at 28-14 with 19 seconds before the intermission when Moeglin connected with Dunne on a 16-yard scoring pass and Simonis made his seventh straight PAT boot this season. The score capped a 10-play and 55-yard drive in 5:46.
ONU cut its deficit to 28-17 at 11:06 of the third period when Di Mario nailed a 25-yard field goal. It capped an 11-play and 36-yard drive in 3:47.
On the first play of the fourth stanza, Angle fake optioned and ran 56 yards to the endzone and DiMario added the PAT to cut the deficit to 28-24.
The Polar Bears grabbed their first lead of the game at 31-28 when Angle threw a 25-yard TD pass into a stiff wind to sophomore WR Reed Allen and DiMario made his fourth PAT boot of the contest. The scoring play capped a seven-play and 80-yard drive.
BW retook the lead at 3:32 when Moeglin bulled in from one yard away and Simonis added the PAT for a 35-31 lead. The score capped a 14-play and 66-yard drive in 7:04.
ONU's final scoring drive covered 16 plays and 75 yards in 3:23.
Next Saturday, September 27, BW returns to action when it travels to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Annual Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy on Wasmer Field at Don Shula Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
