BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore quarterback Ryan O'Rourke (Avon) completed nine-of-13 passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns in his first game as a Yellow Jacket as the Baldwin-Wallace College football team opened its season with a 38-14 victory tonight (Thursday, September 2, 2010) against traditional-rival The College of Wooster on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. The victory also improved ninth-year Head Coach John Snell to 7-2 in season openers.
O'Rourke, who transferred to B-W last spring from NCAA Division II Slippery Rock (Pa.) University, threw a 40-yard TD pass to senior defensive end/ tight end Keith Darbut (Miami, Fla/ Palmetto Senior) on the game's first play and tossed a pair of TD passes to his former high school and Slippery Rock teammate Brett Jensen (Avon) of 59 and 19 yards, all in the first half.
The Yellow Jackets, 1-0, led 17-0 after one quarter, 31-7 at halftime and 31-14 at the end of three stanzas.
In addition to O'Rourke, Jensen led the receiving corps with two catches for 78 yards and the two TD, and sophomore WR Aaron Manders (Toledo/ Cardinal Stritch) caught three passes for 42 yards and a TD. The running game was led by the duo of junior Tim Miker (Parma/ Senior), who carried the ball 11 times for a game-high 66 yards, including a one-yard TD run in the second quarter, and senior RB John McGraw (North Ridgeville), who had 65 yards in 13 attempts. On defense, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference linebacker Ryan Kish (Amherst/ Steele) with nine tackles.
B-W dominated right from the start as freshman defensive back Kevin Johnson (Garfield Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) returned the opening kickoff 55 yards. Then, on the first play from scrimmage, O'Rourke threw the 40-yard TD pass to Darbut. Senior placekicker Brad Pollock (Brecksville/ Brecksville-Broadview Heights) then kicked the point-after-touchdown for a 7-0 lead.
B-W then countered with 9:36 left in the game when sophomore QB Andrew Dziak (Maple Heights/ Parma Padua Fransiscan) passed 10 yards to Manders for a TD and Pollock's PAT kick made the score 38-14.
Offensively, Barnes led Wooster as he completed 20-of-35 passes for 171 yards with the two TD. He also ran the ball 22 times for 36 yards, but was sacked five times. Defensively, Wooster was led by junior LB Matt Bredigan with nine stops.
