Baseball Set for NCAA Tournament, Auburn (N.Y.) Regional

BEREA, Ohio – The 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University baseball team will begin the NCAA Division III Tournament in the Auburn, New York, Regional, hosted by State University of New York at Cortland at Falcon Park.

Announced by the NCAA shortly after midnight on Monday morning, the fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets (31-12 overall) will take on fifth-seeded Swarthmore (Pa.) College on Thursday, May 17, at 10 a.m. Swarthmore enters the tournament with a 33-9 record after capturing the Centennial Conference Championship tournament crown. The Garnet are making just its second appearance in program history, last making the tournament in 1985.

Also joining the Auburn Regional are SUNY Cortland, Salisbury (Md.) University, University of Southern Maine, Amherst (Mass.) College, St. Joseph's College (Long Island) and Westfield State (Mass.) University. All first-round games will be played on Thursday while four games each will be played Friday and Saturday. The regional champion will be crowned on either Saturday or Sunday and will advance to the Division III College World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin, from May 25-28.

Two other OAC schools will be competing in the 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament as OAC regular-season champion Otterbein University and nationally-ranked Marietta College each received at-large bids to compete in the Mideast Regional, hosted by Adrian (Mich.) College. 

BW earned its berth in the national field by dominating the OAC Tournament, winning its first tournament title since 1985 by a combined scoring margin of 56-19. The Yellow Jackets are making their seventh overall appearance at the national level and the third under eighth-year head coach Brian Harrison. BW has not been to an NCAA Tournament since the 2015 season when it received an at-large bid.
