PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team scored early and often in an 18-4 win over Kean (N.J.) University in the team's final spring break game at North Charlotte Park #9.

BW (10-2) tagged the Kean (6-5) starting pitcher with five runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from freshman utility player Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan). Despite having the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom half of the inning, Kean was only able to get one run across the plate. After the first, senior American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Mideast Region and All-Ohio Athletic Conference pitcher Evan Lovick (Mentor) settled in while the offense just kept swinging.

The Yellow Jackets scored at least one run every inning until the sixth, including a seven-run fifth inning. Meanwhile, Lovick kept Kean off the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth when the Cougars plated three runs. A 14-run deficit was too much for Kean to overcome, however, as BW comfortably held on for the 18-4 victory.

Senior outfielder Chase Knodle (Poland/Seminary), senior All-OAC catcher Trent Kaltenbach (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) and Ludwick led the Yellow Jackets with three hits apiece while the freshman drove in a career-high six RBIs.

Lovick threw six innings, giving up three earned runs in seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts to earn his third win of the season. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Max Adams (Massillon/Washington), freshman pitcher/infielder Nick Smith (Mentor) and sophomore left-handed pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) combined for three scoreless innings of work and only allowing one walk.

BW will return to Berea on Saturday, March 17, for a non-conference doubleheader with Wittenberg University at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Fisher Field.
