BEREA, Ohio –The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season as it dropped a three-set Ohio Athletic Conference match to the University of Mount Union inside the Ursprung Gymnasium

BW (23-1, 1-1 OAC), who set a school-record for wins to open a season, fell to Mount Union (17-3, 1-1 OAC) by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-16.

Despite the loss, junior two-time first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) became the 15th player in school-history to record 1,000 career digs when she dug out her sixth ball of the match.  Last week, she became the 10th player to record her 1,000th career kill.  Lortcher is just the fifth player in school history to tally both 1,000 career digs and 1,000 career kills and the first since Hall of Famer Sarah Gordon achieved the feat during the 2002 season.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by sophomore outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) as she recorded 10 kills.  Senior All-OAC right side hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) tallied seven kills.  Lortcher and freshman utility player Alexis Garrett (Mentor) each recorded six kills.

Freshmen setters Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) and Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) ran the offense.  Egan had 17 assists while Cosart tallied 10 assists.

Freshman libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) anchored the back line with a match-high 14 digs.  Lortcher picked up nine digs and Egan had seven digs.

BW is back in action on Saturday, October 7 when it travels to Wilmington for an OAC match against Wilmington College inside the Fred Raizk Arena at 1 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets return home to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gym on Tuesday, October 10 when they host an OAC match against crosstown rival John Carroll University at 7 p.m.
