Volleyball Remains Undefeated, Captures Third Straight Tournament Crown

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team remained undefeated on the season as it won all four of its matches to win the Hartwick College Invitational inside the Lambros Arena. 

BW (12-0) opened the invitational with a pair of wins on Friday night as it defeated Nazareth (N.Y.) College by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 19-25, 25-20 and 15-7 then knocked off Plattsburgh State (N.Y.) University by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-16.  BW closed out the invitational by posting a pair of victories on Saturday against Lycoming (Pa.) College by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-20 and Oneonta State (Va.) University by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 18-25 and 25-19. 

Against Nazareth, junior two-time first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) led the offensive attack with a match-high 14 kills.  Sophomore outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) was the other attacker in double digits with 11 kills.  Freshman setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) set up the offense with a team-high 29 assists and a match-best tying two service aces.  Freshman libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) and freshman defensive specialist Jasmine Hromada (Lorain/Elyria Catholic) led the defensive unit with 21 digs apiece. Lortcher contributed 11 digs.

In the match with Plattsburgh State, Lortcher led the attack with a match-high 12 kills while senior All-OAC right side hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) tallied nine kills.  Egan ran the offense with a match-high 28 assists and a career-best four service aces.  Freshman defensive specialist Emily Moser (Durham, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) led the defense with a career-high eight digs.

Against Lycoming, Lortcher was the spark on offense as she had a match-high 12 kills while Hawkins tallied nine kills.  Egan set up the offense with a match-best 30 assists and a match-high three service aces.  Reinhard anchored the back row as recorded a career-high 27 digs.  Hromada tallied a career-high tying 21 digs and Lortcher had 14.

In the match with Oneonta, Lortcher led the offensive squad with a match-best 15 kills.  Smith hammered down a career-best tying 14 kills and Hawkins added 8.  Egan ran the offense with a match-high and a career-best 50 assists.  Reinhard led the defense with 22 digs while Hromada and Lortcher chipped in 16 and 14 digs, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Monday, September 18 when they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania for a non-conference match against Penn State Behrend College inside the Junker Center.

BW returns home on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23 when it hosts the annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Ohio Athletic Conference Crossover.  Friday's matches begin at 2 p.m. with Saturday's matches slated to start at 10 a.m.
