Volleyball Aces Crosstown Rival John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team won a three-set Ohio Athletic Conference match over crosstown rival John Carroll University inside the Ursprung Gymnasium. 

BW (25-1, 3-1 OAC) beat John Carroll (5-19, 1-3 OAC) by scores of 25-22, 25-10 and 25-14. The Blue Streaks have now lost five straight matches and seven of their last eight contests.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by senior All-OAC right side hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) as she recorded a season-high and match-best 15 kills.  Sophomore outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) hammered down 14 kills. Junior two-time first-team All-OAC outside hitterAlicia Lortcher (Norwalk) tallied six kills and freshman middle hitter Taylor Brown (Maple Heights) returned from an injury and provided four kills. 

Freshmen setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) ran the offense with a match-high 38 assists.

Defensively, Lortcher anchored the back line with a match-best 16 digs.   Freshman libero/defensive specialist Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) recorded 13 digs.  Brown added a match-high tying two blocks.
