Volleyball Defeats Penn State Behrend in Rare Monday Match

ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeated Penn State Behrend College in its first non-conference dual match of the season inside the Junker Center

BW (13-0), who improved to 48-4 in the month of September during the Carter era, won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 18-25 and 25-14. Penn State Behrend (3-8) lost is fourth straight match. 

Offensively, sophomore outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) led the attack with match-high tying 10 kills. Junior two-time first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) and senior All-OAC right side hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) each added eight kills.  Freshman setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) set up the offense with a match-high 34 assists.  Freshman setter Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) contributed nine assists.

Defensively, freshman libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) tallied a match-high 17 digs.  Freshman middle hitter Jessica Whitehead (Wyoming, Mich.), freshman middle hitter Taylor Brown (Maple Heights) and Egan all tallied a match-high tying three blocks.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, September 20 when they travel to Cleveland for a non-conference match against crosstown rival Case Western Reserve University inside the Veale Center.

BW returns home on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23 when it hosts the annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Ohio Athletic Conference Crossover.  Friday's matches begin at 2 p.m. with Saturday's matches slated to start at 10 a.m.
