Volleyball Drops OAC Match to No. 25 Ohio Northern

BEREA Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team dropped a three-set Ohio Athletic Conference match to OAC leader and 25th-nationally ranked Ohio Northern University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW (22-5, 4-4 OAC) fell to Ohio Northern (23-3, 8-0 OAC) by scores of 17-25, 17-25, and 21-25 

Offensively, senior All-OAC middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) led the attack with 10 kills.   Junior outside hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) tallied eight kills and sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) added six.

Freshman setter Shannon Ott (Milan/Edison) ran the offense with 27 assists.

Sophomore libero Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) anchored the defense with a match-high 19 kills.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) tallied 16 digs and Lortcher added 13.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 29 when they host and OAC and Seniors' and Parents' Day match against Capital University in the Ursprung Gym at 1 p.m.

The 2016 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 3 as the top four teams will host a quarterfinal match at 7 p.m.   The semifinal matches will be held at the highest remaining seeds on Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m.   The OAC Championship match will be contested at the highest remaining seed after the semifinals on Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m.
