Hawkins Earns First Career OAC Volleyball Weekly Accolade

UNIONTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University junior outside hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) has been selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

Hawkins, who is a two-year letterwinner, led BW (13-1) to five victories last week, including guiding the team to its second tournament championship by winning all four matches in straight sets at the St. John Fisher (N.Y.) Tournament.  She was responsible for 52 of the Yellow Jackets 216 kills as well as nine of their 28 blocks. Hawkins hit an impressive .440 for the week and also added nine digs for the week.   She opened the week with a match-high 15 kills against Franciscan last Monday.

This season, Hawkins has appeared in and started all 14 matches.   She leads the OAC and is eighth in NCAA Division III with a .418 hitting percentage.   Hawkins is third in the OAC in kills per set with 3.11 and ranks fourth in the conference with 137 kills.  She has also recorded 38 digs, 15 blocks and four service aces. 

BW is back in action on Wednesday, September 21 when it hosts a non-conference match against cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets conclude the week and regular season tournament action this Friday and Saturday, September 23-24 when they travel to Hanover, Indiana to compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) and OAC Crossover hosted by Hanover College.
