Four Volleyball Student-Athletes Garner Academic All-OAC Accolade

UNIONTOWN, Ohio --
 Four Baldwin Wallace University volleyball student-athletes have been named to the 2016 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team. 

In order to be selected as Academic All-OAC a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and maintain varsity status.

Senior defensive specialist Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul), senior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs, sophomore middle hitter Jordan Diels (Paris/Minerva) and sophomore defensive specialist Angel Redman (Hinckley/Medina Highland) are four of the 28 fall student-athletes to be recognized.

Newcomer, who garners her third straight Academic All-OAC accolade, is a business administration major that carries a 3.60 grade point average.  She is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar.   Newcomer ends her career ranked sixth all-time in school-history in digs with 1,653 and 10th all-time in service aces with 124. 

Scruggs, who transferred to BW last season, earns her first Academic All-OAC honor, is a human resources and industrial and organizational psychology major that carries a 3.52 grade point average.  She is a Dean's List student and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society. Scruggs appeared in 60 matches with 504 kills, 168 digs and 133 blocks in two seasons.

Diels, who garners her first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a chemistry major that carries a 3.54 grade point average.  She had her best season as a collegian this season as she recorded career-highs in kills with 97, blocks with 45, digs with 30 and assists with 16.  In two seasons, Diels has appeared in 56 matches with 171 kills, 73 blocks and 45 digs.

Redman, who earns her first Academic All-OAC honor, is an early childhood education major that carries a 3.97 grade point average.  For her career, she has appeared in 27 matches with 65 digs and seven service aces.
