UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team dropped a five set Ohio Athletic Conference match to cross-town rival John Carroll in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center
BW (20-3, 2-2 OAC), who played its first five-set match of the season, fell to John Carroll (13-9, 3-1 OAC) by scores of 25-14, 25-20, 19-25, 17-25 and 7-15.
Offensively, junior outside hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) led the offensive attack with team-high 17 kills and a career-best five service aces. Sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) recorded 16 kills. Senior All-OAC middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) tallied 11 kills.
Freshman setters Shannon Ott (Milan/Edison) ran the offense with a match-high 44 assists.
On the defensive side, sophomore libero Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) had a career-best 28 digs. Lortcher added 18 and senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) contributed 13.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 15 when they travel to New Concord for an OAC match against Muskingum University in Performance Court at 1 p.m. The next home match is on Tuesday, October 18 when BW hosts defending OAC regular season and tournament champion Heidelberg University in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
