Volleyball Wins OAC Opener in Straight Sets Against Marietta

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team won its 11th straight match as it won its Ohio Athletic Conference opener in straight sets against Marietta College in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center

BW (19-1, 1-0 OAC) has now won the last four meetings against Marietta (14-8, 0-1 OAC), including winning the last three in straight sets.  The Yellow Jackets defeated the Pioneers by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-11. 

Offensively, senior All-OAC middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton), who is this week's OAC Player of the Week, led the attack with a career-high 16 kills.  Sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) recorded 10 kills while junior outside hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) contributed nine kills and a career-best three service aces.

Freshman setter Shannon Ott (Milan/Edison) ran the offense as she had 41 assists. 

On the defensive side, sophomore libero Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) had a career-high 22 digs.  Lortcher tallied 11 digs and one block. Scruggs added three blocks and Hawkins had two blocks. 

BW is back in action on Tuesday, October 4 when it travels to Alliance for an OAC match against the University of Mount Union inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at 7 p.m.   The next home match is on Saturday, October 8 when the Yellow Jackets host Wilmington College in an OAC match at 1 p.m.
