BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball dropped the first two matches and rallied from behind to win against Capital University, 3-2, tonight (Wednesday, October 6) at Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. B-W won by scores of 20-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-15, and 15-13.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets are now 16-8 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Capital falls to 10-15 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. BW is now 5-0 in five set matches.
Offensively, B-W was led by sophomore middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) with 29 kills and six blocks. Freshman middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) contributed 16 kills and two blocks, while freshman defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelin) added six kills and added 17 digs.
The Yellow Jackets were anchored on the defensive side by senior setter and co-captain Casey Passen (Ashville/Teays Valley) with 22 digs and 30 set assists. Sophomore libero and co-captain Natalie Emmons (Ashland/Senior) had 47 digs while sophomore setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/North) tabbed 21 set assists.
The Crusaders were led by Sanaya El-Naggar with 14 kills and two blocks, Elissa Foster with 31 digs and Alyssa Angle with 37 assists.
B-W returns to action this Saturday, October 9 when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to play in a double header against OAC rival Otterbein University and non-conference foe Allegheny (Pa.) College at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively. The Yellow Jackets return home to the friendly confines of Ursprung Gymnasium on Tuesdaym October 12 to host OAC rival and 15th ranked Heidelberg University October at 7:00 p.m.
