BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team won their fourth straight match tonight (Wednesday, September 8) as the Yellow Jackets defeated traditional rival Oberlin College, 3-0, in Oberlin. B-W won by scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-20.
The Yellow Jackets are now 5-2 overall on the season, while Oberlin falls to 0-6.
Leading the way offensively for B-W was freshman rightside player Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) with seven kills. Deleur also added eight digs. In addition, sophomore middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) and freshman middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) each added five kills. Sophomore setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/North) led the Jackets with nine set assists.
Senior setter and co-captain Casey Passen (Ashville/Teays Valley) led the team with 10 digs and contributed eight set assists. Sophomore libero and co-captain Natalie Emmons (Ashland/Senior) and freshman defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelin) both had seven digs.
This Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10-11, BW will host the Annual Marcia French Memorial Tournament in Berea. B-W matches on Friday are at 4:00 versus Fransiscan University and at 7:00 p.m. versus The College of Wooster. On Saturday, B-W plays at 10:00 a.m. against Earlham (Ind.) Following the Marcia French Invite, BW hosts Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Ursprung Gymnasium.
