Jackets Sweep Two Matches on Second Day of Marcia French Memorial Invite
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team swept both matches today (Saturday, September 10, 2010) on the second day of the Marcia French Memorial Invitational in Berea, Ohio.  The Yellow Jackets are now 9-2 overall and have won eight straight matches.
 
Although B-W finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record, University of Mount Union also finished 4-0 and was awarded the tournament championship by way of the tie breaker criteria of least sets lost in all matches. In today's first match versus Earlham (Ind.) College, B-W won 3-0, by scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-18. The Yellow Jackets wrapped up the tournament with a 3-0 victory against Oberlin College by the scores of 25-16, 24-15, and 25-15. 
Versus Earlham, sophomore middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton / Holy Name) led the team with eight kills. Junior outside hitter Chelsea Nissen (Williston / Genoa) had seven kills and one block.  Offensively, senior setter Casey Passen (Ashville/Teays Valley) had 12 set assists, while sophomore setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake / North) also had 12. Defensively, sophomore libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland/ Senior) had 14 digs and Nissen also marked 11 digs.

In the win versus Oberlin, Nissen and Bonacci both paced the squad with 11 kills each and combining for four blocks. Joining them offensively, Stitts had 22 set assists and Passen had 12. Defensively, Emmons again led the way with 16 digs, while junior Amanda Mass (North Royalton) had marked 13 digs.

Nissen was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.

The Yellow Jackets will remain at home and be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 when they host Case Western Reserve in Berea, Ohio at 7:00 p.m.  Next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17-18, B-W will travel to Salisbury, Maryland, to play in the Salisbury Seagull Classic tournament. Matches on Friday are at 5:00 versus Gallaudet University and at 7:00 p.m. versus Salisbury (Md.).  On Saturday, B-W plays at 10:00 a.m. against Eastern (Pa.) College and at 12:00 noon versus an opponent yet to be determined.
