Volleyball Team Defeats Muskingum University, 3-1, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University, 3-1, today (Saturday, October 30, 2010) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium of the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.  The scores of the match were 25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22.  This was the final regular season match for each team.  The 2010 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m.

With its victory, B-W is now 20-12 overall and 5-4 in the OAC and is the No.5-seed in the tourney.  With its loss, Muskingum falls to 11-18 overall and 2-7 in the OAC and is the No.8-seed.

Up front, the Yellow Jackets were led by freshman outside hitter Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) with 12 kills and 14 digs in the match.  Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Holy Name) contributed 12 kills and three digs, while sophomore libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland/ Senior) led the team with 37 defensive digs.   

Setting the offense was senior setter Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) who led the team in set assists with 26 on the day with sophomore Jessica Stitts ( Eastlake/ North) contibuted 18 set assists for the Jackets.

The first round of the OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 2.  The Final Four will be held at top-seeded Heidelberg University on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6 in Tiffin. Friday's emifinal matches will be contested at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., and Saturday's OAC Championship Match is at 3:00 p.m.
