Women’s Soccer Falls in OAC Quarterfinals to Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team was shut out for only the third time all season, falling 3-0 to Otterbein University in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.

Just over two weeks ago, the Yellow Jackets and the Cardinals faced off in the regular season with BW emerging victorious in overtime 1-0. Determined not to let the same result happen, Otterbein came out aggressive at the sound of the whistle and really disrupted the Yellow Jackets, keeping them off their toes and not allowing them to get into a rhythm.

Otterbein's offense found ways to penetrate BW's defensive third, rifling off 15 shots in the first half to two shots by the Yellow Jackets. However, sophomore goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) was able to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard until the 39th minute when Otterbein was able to break through for two goals in the span of a minute to change the momentum of the game.

The Yellow Jackets struggled to make adjustments in the second half while Otterbein continued to close out space in the midfield and intercept passes. While the score remained 2-0 for most of the second half, the Cardinals had more than their fair share of opportunities to add to the lead, hitting the crossbar and the post multiple times. Priscilla Severance finally found the back of the net in the 88th minute to give Otterbein its final goal of the night, sealing the 3-0 victory.

BW ends the season at 11-8-1, falling in the OAC Quarterfinals for the first time since 2013. Meanwhile, Otterbein moves on to the semifinals to take on the No. 1 seed Ohio Northern University.

While graduation will hit the Yellow Jackets hard losing seven seniors, junior two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) will return for her senior season after leading the conference in almost every offensive category to lead the offense.
