Eight Women's Soccer Student-Athletes Garner Academic All-OAC Accolades

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Eight Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer student-athletes have been selected to the 2017 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

In order to be selected to the Academic All-OAC team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Senior All-OAC defender Lauren Haynam (Minerva), senior three-time All-OAC midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome), senior defender Jenny Burdick (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca), junior three-time All-OAC forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson), junior defender Bri Osborne (Cincinnati/Batavia), sophomore defender Angelica Rahe (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), sophomore goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) and sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Weidner (Medina) are eight of the 40 fall student-athletes to be recognized.

Haynam, who earns her third-straight Academic All-OAC honor, is an accounting and finance double major who carries a 3.60 GPA. She was named an All-OAC honorable mention selection this fall. She is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. For her career, Haynam appeared in 86 games with four goals and six assists for 14 points.

Poptic, who garners her third-straight Academic All-OAC accolade, is a chemistry and public health double major who carries a 3.81 GPA. She selected to the All-OAC second team this fall. She is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Societies. For her career, Poptic appeared in 78 games with 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points.

Burdick, who earns her third-straight Academic All-OAC honor, is a mathematics major who carries a 3.75 GPA. She is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. Burdick appeared in 50 games in her career with two goals and one assist for five points.

Bender, who garners her second-straight Academic All-OAC accolade, is a communications sciences and disorders major who carries a 3.93 GPA. She is a three-time All-OAC first team selection and the reigning OAC Co-Forward of the Year. Bender led the OAC during the regular season with 16 goals and 40 points and second in the conference with eight assists. In three seasons, she has played in 64 games and has recorded 46 goals and 21 assists for 113 points.

Osborne, who earns her second-straight Academic All-OAC honor, is a psychology and criminal justice double major who carries a 3.58 GPA. She is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. For her career, Osborne has appeared in 50 games as a defender.

Rahe, who garners her first Academic All-OAC honor, is a public health major who carries a 3.53 GPA. A Dean's List student, Rahe has appeared in four games. 

Bruno, who earns her first Academic All-OAC honor, is a marketing major who carries a 3.69 GPA. She is a Dean's List student and a member of the Honors program and the Digital Marketing Clinic. She finished the regular season with the fourth-highest save percentage (.817) in the OAC. For her career, Bruno has appeared in 23 games, made 109 saves and recorded eight individual shutouts and one combined shutout.

Weidner, who garners her first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a mathematics major who carries a 3.94 GPA. A Dean's List student, Weidner has appeared in 22 games in goal, made 105 career saves and recorded five shutouts.
