BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Ohio Athletic Conference and crosstown rival John Carroll University.

John Carroll (7-3-2, 3-0-1 OAC) held the advantage offensively in the first half, outshooting the Yellow Jackets (11-7), putting more shots on goal (5-3) and taking more corner kicks (3-1). Five of the Blue Streaks' 11 shots came in the final 10 minutes of the half, however, BW (8-5-1, 1-2-1 OAC) had its best look on goal off a corner kick by senior All-OAC forward Courtney Schutz (Mentor) in the 22nd minute. Freshman midfielder Kayla Webb (Brunswick) hit the crossbar on a header that would have given the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.

Senior forward Katie O'Donnell finally opened up the scoring in the 52nd minute when she snuck a ball past the outstretched arms of sophomore goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) and into the left corner of the net for what would end up being the only goal of the game.

Head Coach Jim Wojtkun made some substitutions in the 63rd minute when he brought in junior forward Marissa Fabrizi (Brunswick) and switched senior Kori Miller (North Olmsted/Holy Name) back to defense to tighten up the Yellow Jacket back line.

Bruno kept the Yellow Jackets in the game with a save off a shot by Bailey Fischer, the reigning OAC Player of the Week, in the 80th minute.

After a John Carroll yellow card in the 83rd minute, freshman defender Morgan Gray (Dublin/Scioto) took a free kick from close to midfield and hit the crossbar on the fly. Senior All-OAC midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) also hit the crossbar on a shot in the 89th minute but could not find the back of the net, sealing the shutout win for the Blue Streaks.

BW will look to bounce back when it hosts Muskingum University for an OAC game on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m inside George Finnie Stadium.
