Three Women’s Soccer Players Garner Academic All-Ohio Accolades

BEREA, Ohio – Three Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer players have been selected to the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) NCAA Division III Academic All-Ohio Team.

Junior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) earned a first-team Academic All-Ohio selection while senior All-OAC defender Lauren Haynam (Minerva) and senior three-time All-OAC midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) were chosen to the second team.

Bender, who earns her second straight Academic All-Ohio honor, is a communications sciences and disorders major who carries a 3.93 GPA. She is a three-time All-OAC first team selection, the reigning OAC Co-Forward of the Year and a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree. Bender led the OAC during the regular season with 16 goals and 40 points and second in the conference with eight assists. In three seasons, she has played in 64 games and has recorded 46 goals and 21 assists for 113 points.

Haynam, who also garners her second consecutive Academic All-Ohio accolade, is an accounting and finance double major who carries a 3.60 GPA. She was named an All-OAC honorable mention selection this fall. She is a dean's list student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society and a three-time Academic All-OAC selection. For her career, Haynam appeared in 86 games with four goals and six assists for 14 points.

Poptic, who earns her third straight Academic All-Ohio honor, is a chemistry and public health double major who carries a 3.81 GPA. She was selected to the All-OAC second team this fall. She is a dean's list student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Societies and a three-time Academic All-OAC selection. For her career, Poptic appeared in 78 games with 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points.

BW finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 11-8-1 and a 4-4-1 mark in the OAC, advancing to the conference tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
