TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team withstood a late penalty kick goal by the Heidelberg University Student Princes, coming out with a 3-2 Ohio Athletic Conference victory.

Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) got the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard in the 30th minute when she scored her first goal of the season from 20 yards out, sending the ball into the top of the net. Junior forward Marissa Fabrizi (Brunswick) was credited with her second assist in as many games.

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime off junior two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Rachel Bender's (Massillon/Jackson) 16th goal of the season, a clear shot on an open net.

While the Yellow Jackets outshot Heidelberg at halftime 11 shots to four and six shots on goal to two, the Student Princes (8-7-1, 2-4 OAC) came out of the locker room with a renewed determination. Less than five minutes into the second half, Erica Campbell brought Heidelberg within one goal of the lead with her 11th goal of the season.

BW was able to answer the Heidelberg goal in the 73rd minute when Bender sent a through ball up to Poptic who was able to break away and score her second goal of the game and regain a two-goal advantage for the Yellow Jackets.

Heidelberg attempted to mount a comeback, scoring a penalty kick goal following a BW foul in the 82nd minute but the comeback came up short as the Student Princes' final two shots fell high and wide.

By the end of the game, both team's statistics were rather even. BW took 16 shots to Heidelberg's 15 and put eight shots on goal to the Student Princes' five. The Heidelberg goalie outsaved sophomore goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) five to three while the sophomore was credited with her seventh win in the net this season.

With three games remaining on the schedule, the Yellow Jackets now move to 10-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the OAC.

BW will honor the team's seven seniors when it hosts Otterbein University on Saturday, Oct. 21, for Seniors' and Parents' Day at 1 p.m. on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.
