SARASOTA, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team dropped a 132-56 non-conference dual meet to Widener (Pa.) University at the Sarasota YMCA during its annual Florida training trip.
BW (3-5) was led by senior All-OAC performer Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) and junior All-American Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights). Burk won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:03.11 and was second in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:53.71. Thompson earned the victory in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 59.21 seconds and was the runner-up in the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 56.87.
In addition, freshman freestyler Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) took second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 56.99. Freshman freestyler Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) was third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.22.
In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial), Thompson, Shaw and sophomore freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon) placed third in a season-best time of 1:42.81. The 200-yard freestyle relay unit of Beyer, sophomore freestyler Matthew Roetter (Troy), Burk and sophomore freestyler Kevin Hartenstein (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) took third in a season-best time of 1:37.48.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 14 when they hosts a non-conference dual meet against NCAA Division II Malone University in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m. BW returns to OAC action on Friday, January 20 when it travels to ADA for a dual meet against Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 6 p.m.
