Men's Swimming and Diving Defeated by Cross-town Rival John Carroll in OAC Regular Season Finale

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season portion of its schedule as as it fell to cross-town rival John Carroll University by a final score of 142-94 in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW was led by senior All-OAC performer Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) and freshman freestyler Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) as each won a pair of events.   Burk won the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:27.69 and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:01.81.  Shaw captured the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.60 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 53.19.

In addition, junior All-American Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time 59.50 of was third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.73. Sophomore diver Cameron O'Brien (Toledo/Northview) won the six-dive 1-meter event with 191.75 points.  Sophomore freestyler Kevin Hartenstein (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 10:47.54 and took third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:14.58. Freshman diver/stroker Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) was second in the five-dive 1-meter event with a career-best 129.05 points. 

In relay action, the 200-yard medley unit of sophomore freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial), Thompson, Shaw and sophomore freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon) placed second in a season-best time of 1:41.42. 

The Yellow Jacket close out the regular season portion of their schedule on Saturday, January 28 when it hosts a non-conference dual against Case Western Reserve University in the BW Natatorium on Seniors' and Parents' Day at 1 p.m.


The OAC Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union will be contested on February 16-18 in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.  Prelim action is slated for 11 am on Thursday and at 10 am on Friday and Saturday.   Finals will be contested each night with action scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday with a 5:30 p.m. start on Saturday.
