Men's Swimming and Diving Fifth After First Day of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team stands in fifth place after the first day of competition at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW is fifth of seven team with 86 points.   John Carroll leads the after the first day competition with 122 points. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior All-OAC freestyler Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) finished fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 4:47.86, which was just eight one-hundredth of a second off his school-record that he set at last year's championships.

In addition, junior All-American stroker Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was ninth in the 200-yard individual medley in a school-record time of 1:57.25.  

In relay action, the 200-yard freestyle team of freshman freestyler Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./, Thompson, sophomore freestyle John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) and sophomore freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon) finished fifth in a season-best time of 1:27.51.  The 400-yard medley relay squad of Allison, Thompson, Shaw and freshman freestyler Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) took fourth in a time of 3:33.80.

BW is back in action for the second day of the OAC Championships on Friday, February 17.  Preliminary action will begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will be contested at 6 p.m.   The OAC Championships will be contested on Saturday, February 18.
