Men's Swimming and Diving Sets Three School Records on Day Two of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team set one Ohio Athletic Conference record and three school records and had three All-OAC performers on the second day of competition at the OAC Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW stands fifth of seven teams with 241 points.   John Carroll University leads after the second day with 550 points.  

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior All-American Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and freshman stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs).  Thompson successfully defended his title in the 100-yard breaststroke and reestablished the OAC-record and school-record with a time of 54.27 seconds as well as swimming the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay that set the school-record. Shaw earned his first All-OAC honor and was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly with a school-record time of 50.55 seconds.  He originally set the school-record during thprelims then reestablished it in the finals. Shaw also swam the third leg of the 200-yard medley relay that set the school-record.

In addition, sophomore diver Cameron O'Brien (Toledo/Northview) earned his first All-OAC honor as he was the runner-up in the 3-meter dive with a career-best 359.6 points.  Senior All-OAC performer Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) finished fourth in the 400-yard individual medley in a season-best time of 4:12.81.  Burk was third in the event last year when he set the school-record.  Freshman diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) took fourth in the 3-meter dive with a career-best 240.15 points.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay quad of sophomore freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon), Thompson, Shaw and freshman freestyler Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) set the school-record with a time of 1:35.96.  The 800-yard freestyle relay unit of Burk, sophomore freestyler Kevin Hartenstein (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory), sophomore freestyler Matt Roetter (Troy) and Lockhart finished fifth in a season-best time of 7:31.52.

BW is back in action on Saturday, February 18 for the third and final day of competition of the OAC Championships.  Prelims begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will be contested at 6 p.m.
