Thompson Wins Second OAC Title on Final Day of OAC Championships to Lead BW to Fifth Place Finish

AKRON, Ohio -- Junior All-American Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won his second Ohio Athletic Conference championship to lead the Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team to a fifth place finish at the three-day OAC Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW was fifth of seven teams with 351 points.  John Carroll University won the championship with 806 points.

Thompson won the 200-yard breaststroke in a school-record time of 2:04.69, which was 22 one-hundredths off the OAC-record.  He also won the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday night in an OAC-record time of 54.27 seconds.

In addition, senior All-OAC performer Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) was the runner-up in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 16:39.70.  Burk was the champion in 2014 and 2016.  Sophomore diver Cameron O'Brien (Toledo/Northview) earned his second All-OAC accolade as he finished third in the 1-meter dive with career-best 381.15 points.  O'Brien earned his first All-OAC honor on Friday night when he finished second in the 3-meter dive. Freshman diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) took sixth in the 1-meter dive with a career-best 279.15 points.

In relay action, the 400-yard freestyle relay unit of freshman All-OAC performer Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs, freshman freestyler Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls), sophomore freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon) and Thompson took sixth in a time of 3:17.62

The NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will be contested on March 15-18 in Shenandoah, Texas at the Conroe Independent School District (CISD) Natatorium.
