BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse second year head coach Trey Keeley has announced his 2019 team captains.
Senior Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) All-West Region defender Brian Jandzinski (Lancaster, N.Y./Central), senior midfielder Thomas Moesch (Ithaca, N.Y.) and junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Ben Kubiak (Wooster) have been selected to lead the Yellow Jackets this season.
A three-time All-OAC selection, Jandzinski has started all but one game of his career. As the lone junior captain last season, he amassed team- and career-high numbers of 54 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers while also scoring his first career goal. As a result, Jandzinski garnered the first All-Region accolade of his career.
"Brian was an exceptional captain last year and a big reason that we landed in the OAC Championship game for the first time in program history," Keeley said. "He has raised the bar and really been a supportive figure for adding two captains and in crafting the 2018-19 team's identity."
Moesch is a three-year letterwinner who has appeared in 46 games in the midfield throughout his career. He recorded a career-high 31 ground balls a season ago, good enough for sixth on the team, while also contributing three goals on offense. Moesch's experiences off the field, however, will be a valuable lesson to his teammates.
"Tom's experience in the ROTC program has elevated his emotional intelligence and mental toughness and enabled him to demand more out of our team," Keeley said. "Our nation's Army is getting an exceptional soldier in June but not until his job is done here this spring!"
The lone junior captain this season, Kubiak had a breakout sophomore campaign en route to an honorable mention All-OAC selection. He tied for fifth on the team with 21 goals and 29 points while also getting it done on the defensive end with career highs of 24 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
"Ben stepped up this fall as a vocal leader of our offensive unit," Keeley said. "He has earned respect from all of his teammates after the work he put in during the offseason and came back stronger with an improved skill set. Ben had a significant impact on the freshman class with helping them acclimate to the college game and our program's culture here at BW."
BW will open the 2019 season with back-to-back non-conference home games against Grove City (Pa.) College on Saturday, Feb. 23, and St. Vincent (Pa.) College on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
