Wayne Schneider Named Men’s Golf Coach at BW

BEREA, Ohio --  Baldwin Wallace University has named Wayne Schneider as its new men's golf coach. He succeeds Tom Heil who recently left the University to become the head men's basketball coach at Defiance College.

Schneider also is no stranger to BW golf as he helped to lead the women's program three years ago during its fall season toward to an Ohio Athletic Conference title and an NCAA Division III national tournament berth.

Since 2001, Schneider has served as an adjunct professor in the Division of Health and Physical Education and as a Clinical Practice Supervisor in the Division of Education.  He has taught a variety of HPE and Special Methods activity classes.

Prior to coming to BW, Schneider served as a teacher and coach in the Berea City School District since 1976.  His positions included being a health and physical education teacher and coach for Middleburg Heights Junior High School, Roehm Junior High School and Ford Middle School in Berea and Berea High School.

Schneider has had many different head coaching positions. At Roehm Junior High, he was the head coach of the eighth grade football and ninth grade wrestling teams. As wrestling coach, Schneider's teams won 63 consecutive matches from 1976-1984. He then moved on to become the head golf coach and head wrestling coach at Berea High School from 1984-1989. At Ford Middle School, Schneider served as the wrestling and track coach while continuing to serve as golf coach at BHS. His Ford M.S. wrestling team was the conference champion in 2001.   

While in college, Schneider attended Cuyahoga Community College where he received varsity letters in baseball and golf. He went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University where he majored in health and physical education and double minored in speech and English. While at KSU, Schneider also earned his Masters of Education in Physical Education and General Education. He also was a resident student assistant dormitory counselor, Secretary of the men's physical education honorary (Phi Epsilon Kappa), and a news broadcaster and disc jockey at the campus radio station, WKSU.
