BEREA, Ohio –The No. 24-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell to No. 25-nationally ranked Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 65-52 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
BW (14-5, 8-3 OAC) had two players score in double figures led by senior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) as he recorded his second straight, OAC leading ninth and 27th career double-double with 12 points and a game-high and career-high tying 18 rebounds. Senior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored 13 points.
Marietta (15-4, 9-3 OAC), who has won 10 of the last 11 meetings, had two players score in double digits led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Dillion Young as he scored a game-high 16 points. Junior forward Avery Williams contributed 14 points.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 7-4 lead when sophomore forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) knocked down a three-pointer at the 14:45 mark. After a Pioneer layup, BW went on a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 12-6 when Kuhn buried a triple at 12:41. Marietta cut the lead down to 23-20 when junior forward DeVaughn Wingard hit a trey at the 6:53 mark. The Yellow Jackets pushed the lead to 35-29 when senior forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) hit a three-pointer with 59 seconds remaining. The Pioneers scored the final points of the half to cut the lead down to 35-31 when Dillon Young scored on a layup with 36 seconds left.
Marietta tied the game in the second half at 42-42 when sophomore Caleb Hoyng scored on a layup at the 12:58 mark. BW would only score three points over the next 7:58 as the Pioneers took a 55-45 lead on a layup by Williams at 5:00. The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to 57-50 when sophomore guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick), who scored the game-winning three-pointer in the first meeting, converted the traditional three-point play at the 2:22 mark. Marietta closed the game on a 8-2 run to secure the 65-52 victory.
BW is back in action on Wednesday, January 31 when it travels to Ada for an OAC game against Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 7 p.m. The next home game is on Saturday, February 3 when the team hosts an OAC game against Otterbein University in the Ursprung Gym at 3 p.m.
