Five Yellow Jackets Power Men’s Basketball to OAC Victory at Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio –  Five Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball players scored in double figures to lead the Yellow Jackets to an 83-69 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Capital University inside the Capital Center.

BW (6-2, 3-1 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) as he scored 18 points to follow his 32-point performance on Thursday night.  Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) poured in 15 points while senior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) recorded his third straight double-double and the 23rd of his career as he scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) chipped in 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior guard Kyle Nader (Vermilion) rounded out the double figure scorers as he contributed a season-high 10 points.

Capital (4-6, 1-3 OAC) had three players score in double digits led by freshman guard Cameron Caldwell as he scored a game-high 26 points.  Junior All-OAC guard Austin Schreck chipped in 13 points and junior guard Joey Weingartner contributed 10 points.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on 9-2 run when sophomore guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) scored on a layup at the 15:48 mark.  BW pushed its lead to 16-6 on a jumper in the paint by sophomore forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) at 12:45. The Crusaders responded with a 5-3 run to cut the lead down to 19-11 on a fast-break layup by Caldwell at the 10:55 mark.  The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 26-15 when Battle knocked down a three-pointer at 8:50. BW pushed its lead to 37-22 on a fast-break layup by Nader at the 3:35 mark. The Yellow Jackets, who shot an impressive .692 from the field and .545 from three-point land, closed the half on a 7-4 run to head into the locker room with a 44-26 lead after Quiring hit a jumper with two seconds remaining.

BW opened the second half on a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 51-28 on a three-pointer by Fetherolf at the 18:03 mark.  Capital responded with a 21-11 run to cut the lead down to 62-49 on a dunk by Cox at 9:37.   The Yellow Jackets answered backed with a 7-5 run to push the lead to 69-54 on a layup by Colombo at the 6:51 mark.    The Crusaders fought back with a 7-2 run to cut the lead down to 71-61 on a layup by Caldwell at 5:01.  BW outscored Capital by a margin of 12-8 over the remainder of the game to secure the win.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, December 20 when it travels to Orlando, Florida to take on St. Vincent (Pa.) College in the first game of the RDV Sportsplex D3 Classic hosted by Hope (Mich.) College in the RDV Sportsplex Athletic Club at 7:30 p.m.
