Kuhn Sparks Men’s Basketball Victory at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio –  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) had the hot hand as he scored a game-high and season-high 32 points to spark the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball 92-86 Ohio Athletic Conference victory against Heidelberg University inside Seiberling Gymnasium.

Kuhn, who recorded his sixth career 30+ point game, shot an impressive 60 percent from the field as he hit 9-of-15 field goals, including 80 percent from three-point land on 4-of-5 attempts.  He also was 10-of-12 from the charity stripe.

In addition to Kuhn for BW (5-2, 2-1 OAC), senior forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) poured in a season-high 16 points.  Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) chipped in with 15 points.   Senior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) picked up his second straight double-double and the 22nd of his career as he scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high and season-high 14 rebounds.

Heidelberg (4-3, 2-1 OAC) had three players score in double digits led by Kiere Bennie as he scored 24 points. Myron Prewitt and Phariz Watkins each chipped in 20 points.

After the game was tied at 8-8 with 13:53 remaining in the first half, the Student Princes went on a 14-4 run to take a 22-12 lead on a dunk by Prewitt at 10:07.  The Yellow Jackets went in a 14-9 run to cut the lead down to 30-26 on a layup by Kuhn at the 4:31 mark.  BW tied the game at 38-38 with 1:24 remaining in the first half when Kaminski knocked down a three-pointer.   Heidelberg scored the final two baskets of the period and held a 42-38 lead at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets opened up the second half 13-6 run to take a 51-48 lead on a three-pointer by Kuhn at the 15:55 mark.  The Student Princes then went on a 9-8 run to cut the lead down to 59-57 on a layup by Watkins at 11:10. BW responded with a 5-0 run to push the lead to 64-58 on a trey from Kuhn ay the 10:34 mark.  Heidelberg cut the lead down to 74-72 on a layup by Bennie at 5:41. The Yellow Jackets pushed the lead back up to 10-points at 85-75 when sophomore guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) split a pair of free throws at the 2:58 mark.   The Student Princes came back with a 6-3 run to cut the lead down to 88-81 on a James Hanley layup at 1:08.  Heidelberg outscored BW by a margin of 5-4 down the stretch but it was not enough.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, December 16 when they travel to Bexley for an OAC game against Capital University inside the Capital Center at 2 p.m.
