Fetherolf's Double-Double Leads Men's Basketball Past Trine (Ind.)

ANOGOLA, Ind. –  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) recorded his 20th career double-double to lead the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team to a 68-59 victory over Trine University in a non-conference game inside Hersey Hall.

Fetherolf scored a season-high tying 14 points and grabbed a game-best and season-high 12 rebounds to pace two BW (3-1) players in double figures. Senior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) led the team with 15 points.  

Trine (1-3) had three players score double figures led by Myles Copeland as he scored a game-best 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds.  Pete Smith chipped in 15 points while Maurice Hunter tallied the double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Thunder opened the game with a bucket from Copeland before the Yellow Jackets ran off 17 straight points to take the 17-2 lead on a triple from junior All-OAC guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) at the 15:49 mark.   Trine used a 5-3 run over the next three minutes to cut the lead down to 20-7 when Jared Dishop knocked down a jumper at 12:35. BW responded with a 7-2 run to push the lead to 27-9 on a three-pointer from sophomore forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) at the 9:18 mark.   The Thunder answered with a 9-2 run to cut the lead down to 29-18 when Hunter hit the jumper at 6:03.  The Yellow Jackets outscored Trine by a margin of 5-3 down the stretch to lead 34-21 at halftime.   BW got a three-pointer from sophomore guard Zach Cebula (Brunswick) and a jumper from Fetherolf.

The Thunder opened the second half on an 14-4 run to cut the lead down to 38-35 when Copeland converted the traditional three-point play at the 12:42 mark.  The Yellow Jackets answered with a 9-4 run to push the lead to 47-39 on a trey sophomore guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) at 10:08.  Trine cut the lead down to 49-43 on a layup by Copeland at the 8:22 mark.  BW pushed the lead back to 13-points at 56-43 when Battle scored on a layup at 5:52. The Thunder went on 13-5 run to cut the lead down to 61-56 when Smith scored on a layup at 2:50 mark.   The Yellow Jackets outscored Trine, 7-3, down the stretch to secure the victory.   Colombo scored the final points of the game as he knocked down a pair of free throws with nine seconds left in regulation

BW returns to action on Saturday, December 2 when it opens OAC play against defending OAC Champion and sixth-nationally ranked Marietta College in the Ban Johnson Arena at 3 p.m.
