BW Men’s Basketball Team Loses at No.8-Ranked Marietta, 93-78

MARIETTA, Ohio --  Junior guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored a game-high 35 points, but the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team lost to 8th-ranked and  host Marietta College, 93-78, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Ban Johnson Arena.

Kuhn, the OAC's leading scorer at 24.1 points-per-game, canned 14 of 24 shots from the floor, including 5 of 12 three-pointers, and both of his foul shots. He also had three assists, two steals and a blocked shot with NO turnovers in 35 minutes of action.

In addition to Kuhn for BW (6-3, 2-2 OAC), freshman guard Jay Battle had 10 points.  Sophomore forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) had six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Marietta (8-1, 4-0 OAC) was led by junior center A.J. Edwards with 23 points, senior wing Brennan McKean had 21 and senior forward Eddy Grenert had 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

In the first half, Marietta grabbed a 4-0 lead before BW tied it at 4-4. The Pioneers went on a 16-5 run to take their largest lead of the half at 20-9 with 13:05 left. BW came right back with a 20-9 run of its own to tie it at 29-29 at 6:08 when Kuhn canned a three-pointer. He had 15 first half points.

After the game was tied at 31-31, BW went on a 5-0 run to build its largest lead of the stanza at 36-31 with 1:40 left when freshman guard Michael Peters (Cuyahoga Falls/ CVCA) made a layup. Marietta came right back to score the final seven points of the half to lead 38-36 at halftime.

In the second half, Marietta came out hot and built a 12-point lead at 56-44 with 14:53 left when Edwards scored. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Pioneers 12-8 to get as close as eight at 64-56 with 11:32 left when Kuhn canned a triple.

Marietta then outscored BW 14-5 to build a lead at 80-64 with 6:33 left. The closest BW got after that was 10 points at 86-76 when junior guard Zack Brandy (Hudson) made two foul shots.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, December 16 when they travel to Marietta, Ohio to play the Marietta College Pioneers in the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m. The next BW home game is on Saturday, Dec. 19 versus Wilmington College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 3 p.m.
