BEREA, Ohio -- Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored a game-high 27 points as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team beat visiting OAC rival Otterbein University, 88-64, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. The win gave BW a sweep of the season series and was its 11th straight versus the Cardinals dating back to February 3, 2011.
In addition to Kuhn for BW (12-9, 7-7 OAC), junior guard Brandon Gleim (Hilliard/ Davidson) scored 13 points and sophomore forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) scored nine points and had a game-high 10 rebounds . Otterbein (4-17, 2-12 OAC) was led by sophomore forward Matt Hughes with 22 points.
In the first half, BW gained a 2-0 lead at 18:47 when Kuhn drove to the basket and scored on a layup. Otterbein outscored BW 9-2 to lead 9-4 at 16:41. BW returned the favor with a 14-8 run to lead 18-17 10:13 when Gleim made a three-pointer.
BW's lead grew to 26-19 at 7:43 when freshman guard Michael Peters (Cuyahofa Falls/ CVCA) made a three-pointer. Otterbein closed the half on a 17-13 to cut the Yellow Jacket advantage to 39-36 at the intermission.
In the second half, Otterbein grabbed and 40-39 lead at 19:13. BW outscored the Cardinals 11-4 to grab the second of two six-point leads at 14:28 when Fetherolf dunked. It was short-lived as Otterbein scored seven straight points to grab a 51-50 lead.
The Yellow Jackets came back with a 12-0 run to grab a 62-51 lead at 9:05 when Brandy made two foul shots. It forced Otterbein to use its fifth timeout of the game. Otterbein cut BW's lead to six at 6:47 but a jumper by sophomore forward Jordan Richardson (Beachwood) at 6:24 and a triple by sophomore forward Mike Kaminski (Medina/ Senior) at 6:03 to restore the double-digit lead at 69-58.
BW had its biggest lead of the game at 88-62 with 50.3 seconds left when sophomore transfer forward Jeremy Holley (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) scored a layup.
BW is back in action on Wednesday, February 10 when the Yellow Jackets travel to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7:30 p.m. The next home game is on Wednesday, Feb. 17 when BW hosts Ohio Northern University in the Ursprung Gym at 7:30 p.m.
