BEREA, Ohio -- Sophomore forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) had his fourth double-double this season with game-highs of 15 points and 14 rebounds as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team won its third straight game as it beat visiting Westminster (Pa.) College, 75-66, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
In addition to Fetherolf for BW (4-1 overall), sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) had 13 points and six rebounds and freshman guard Michael Peters (Cuyahoga Falls/ CVCA) had his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Titans (0-5) were led by sophomore forward Jarret Vrabel with 12 points.
In the first half, BW jumped out to a 5-2 lead at 17:21 when junior forward Jaelen Hollinger (Akron/ Archbishop Hoban) grabbed an offensive rebound and scored. Hollinger had seven points and four caroms. The Titans outscored the Yellow Jackets 16-10 at took their largest lead of the half at 18-15 when sophomore forward Deontay Scott made a layup.
The Yellow Jackets finally gained the lead at 26-24 at 4:34 when Fetherolf grabbed a rebound and scored. It was one of eight first half rebounds for BW's big man. BW outscored Westminster 10-4 the remainder of the stanza to grab a 36-28 with 49 seconds left when senior guard Zach Warner (Clyde) canned a three-pointer. Warner had three treys in the game for nine points.
In the second half, the Titans cut the deficit to 36-34 at 18:14 when senior forward Charlie Wallander made a driving layup. BW responded with a 19-12 run to build its largest lead at 55-46 with 10:23 left when Warner canned a triple.
Again Westminster fought back to close to 61-58 at 6:16 when freshman guard A.J. Grant made a layup, was fouled and made his foul shot. BW outscored the Titans 7-2 to build its lead back to eight at 68-60 with 4:16 left when freshman guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/ Lincoln) made two foul shots. Westminster only got as close as six points after that point.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, December 2 when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to begin their 2015-2016 Ohio Athletic Conference schedule against rival University of Mount Union in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at 7:30 p.m. It is the first of four straight road games. The next home game is on Saturday, Dec. 19 versus Wilmington College at 3 p.m.
