Eight Women's Cross Country Student-Athletes Named to Academic All-OAC Team

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Eight Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country student-athletes have been named to the 2018 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

In order to be selected to the Academic All-OAC team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Junior three-time All-OAC performer Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit), junior Katie Fowler (Mount Vernon), junior Claire Makowski (Bethel Park, Pa.), junior Jordan Dascani (Toledo/Springfield), junior two-time All-OAC performer Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View), sophomore All-OAC performer Madison Kile (North Canton/Hoover), sophomore Megan Vaughn (Amherst/Firelands) and sophomore All-OAC performer Hastings Marek (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) are eight of 54 Yellow Jacket student-athletes to be recognized this fall.

Brennan, who earns her second Academic All-OAC honor and the first since 2016, is an accounting and finance double major who carries a 3.97 GPA. Academically, she is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Societies. Brennan returned to the cross country course in style this season, earning her third career All-Ohio, All-OAC and All-Great Lakes Region honors with sixth-, 10th- and seventh-place finishes, respectively. . She ran a season-best 6k time of 21:58.8 at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships, helping the Yellow Jackets to the school's first regional team title and an appearance at the NCAA Championships.

Fowler, who garners her second Academic All-OAC accolade, is a communications sciences and disorders and Spanish double major who carries a 3.90 GPA. She is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. Fowler had a season-best and career-best 6k time of 25:32.9 at the Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble. 

Makowski, who is named to her second Academic All-OAC team, is a music education major who carries a 3.84 GPA. Academically, she is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. Makowski ran a season-best 6k time of 24:41.4 at the 2018 NCAA Championships. 

Dascani, who earns her second Academic All-OAC honor, is a pre-physical therapy major who carries a 3.69 GPA. A Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar, Dascani had a season-best and career-best 6k time of 26:03.9 at the Inter-Regional Rumble.

Pendola, who garners her second Academic All-OAC accolade, is a neuroscience and psychology double major who carries a 3.68 GPA. Academically, she is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. Pendola continued her success on the course this season by repeating as an All-Ohio, All-OAC and All-Great Lakes Region performer with fourth-, sixth- and 19th-place finishes, respectively. She ran a season-best and career-best 6k time of 22:23.1 at the All-Ohio Division III Championships.

Kile, who is named to her first Academic All-OAC team, is an engineering major who carries a 3.98 GPA. She is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and the recipient of the BW Academic Excellence Award for both the women's cross country and women's track and field teams. Kile built on a successful freshman campaign by repeating as an All-Ohio and All-Great Lakes Region performer while also earning her first All-OAC accolade with a seventh-place finish. She had a season-best and career-best 6k time of 22:49.4 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships. 

Vaughn, who earns her first Academic All-OAC honor, is a marketing and management double major who carries a 3.73 GPA. A Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar, Vaughn had a season-best 6k time of 25:06.8 at the Inter-Regional Rumble.

Marek, who garners her first Academic All-OAC accolade, is an applied mathematics major who carries a 3.61 GPA. Academically, she is a Dean's List student. On the course, Marek earned her first career All-Great Lakes Region honor by running a season-best and career-best 6k time of 22:52.7 to finish 29th.
