AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team won two individual champions and set three school records on the second day of competition of the OAC Championships hosted by John Carroll University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
The BW women won two individual championships and set three school-records and were led by senior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) as she won one event and set two individual records.
The Yellow Jackets stand fourth of seven teams with 246 points. John Carroll leads with 525 points. Yellow Jacket men stand fifth of seven teams with 213 points. Ohio Northern remains the leader after two days with 543 points.
The BW women were led by Ashbaugh won the title in the 100-yard butterfly in a school-record and career-best time of 57.30 seconds. Ashbaugh had the fastest qualifying time in the prelims with a season-best time of 58.24 seconds.
Senior All-OAC and defending OAC Diver of the Year Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone) as she successfully defended her 3-meter dive title with 432.05 points.
Freshman stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South) set a school record in the 400-yard individual medley and finished third in the 400-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 4:45.46.
In addition to Ashbaugh, Fortune, and Krupp sophomore freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) made it on the podium in the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 1:59.62. Sophomore Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) finished 12th in the 100-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 1:02.48. Sophomore freestyler Courtney Severns (Bucyrus) placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:12.51. Severns swam a career-best time of 1:12.50 in the prelims. Sophomore freestyler Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park/Fairview) placed 16th in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.67. Gladish swam a career-best time of 1:05.35 in the prelims. Freshman freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darrien, Ill./Hinsdale South) placed 11th in the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 2:05.89. Freshman freestyler Mackenzie Biastre (Eden, N.Y) placed 14th in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:12.16. Biastre swam a career-best time of 2:10.72 in the prelims.
In relay action, the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Ashbaugh, Krupp, Onchuck, and Miller finished fourth in a season-best time of 8:07.68. In the first leg of the relay Ashbaugh set a school-record in 200-freestyle with a career-best 1:55.91.
BW closes out the OAC Championships on Saturday, February 20. Preliminary events begin at 10 a.m. and the finals are slated for at 5:30 p.m.
